The University of Utah is committed to inclusive excellence and we recognize that there are multiple components and important key sources of influence shaping our campus climate. Toward this end, some of our efforts are reflected in diversifying our campus and providing a wide range of curriculum and offerings found in the university's course catalogue including our Diversity (DV) Courses and General Education requirements, which are maintained by Undergraduate Studies. Our courses present students with opportunities to enhance cross-cultural understandings across difference and reinforce the principles encouraged by national organizations, like the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), to "respon[d] to the changing demands of the twenty first century—demands for more college educated workers and more engaged and informed citizens.”
Additionally, the university maintains basic institutional data that provide budget and administrative transparency; a new program on transformative excellence to build faculty strength in strategic interdisciplinary areas through cluster hiring; academic policies including rentention, promotion, and tenure (RPT) reivews that preserve academic freedom; and individualized holistic evaluation into admissions practices to guide our day to day activities. These efforts, together with our expanding support services and programsin the Division of Student Affairs work hand-in-hand to facilitate student success by advancing students' experiences, both within and outside of the classroom setting to fulfill our institutional mission and strategic goals.
